Tired that sleep does not touch is usually not a sleep problem. It is a nervous system that has not been told the day is over. The telling is the practice.
One note a day. Two or three sentences, no practice attached, nothing to sign up for. Some days it is the whole intervention — you read it, your shoulders come down, you get on with the afternoon.
There are 60 notes and they rotate. Everyone reading on the same day reads the same one.
- 01 Rest
You are not behind on rest. Rest is not a debt that accrues while you are busy. It is a state your body can enter this afternoon, for four minutes, without settling anything first.
- 02 Burnout
Tired that sleep does not touch is usually not a sleep problem. It is a nervous system that has not been told the day is over. The telling is the practice.
- 03 Letting go
You do not have to let go of it. You only have to stop carrying it in your shoulders while you think about it.
- 04 Morning
Before the first thought arrives, there is a gap. It is short and it is yours. Most mornings you hand it to your phone without noticing.
- 05 Body
Your jaw has been holding something since roughly ten this morning. It will let go the moment you notice it, and it will take it back in twenty minutes. Both of those are fine.
- 06 Rest
Stopping and recovering are two different things. You can stop for a whole weekend and never once recover. That is not a discipline failure — the switch is somewhere else.
- 07 Over-responsibility
Being the one everybody leans on is not a personality. It is a position. Positions can be set down for an hour without anyone falling.
- 08 Sleep
If you are lying awake auditing the day, your body is still at work. It does not need the verdict. It needs to be told the shift ended.
- 09 Digital detox
The problem is not the hours on the screen. It is that your attention never gets to close a loop — every scroll opens one more and leaves it open.
- 10 Body
Put a hand flat on your chest and leave it there for the length of three breaths. Nothing is supposed to happen. Something usually does.
- 11 Letting go
Surrender is not agreement. You can stop fighting a thing you still think is wrong. The fighting is what is costing you the sleep, not the position.
- 12 Rest
There is no correct amount of rest to have earned. There is only a body, and whether it has been allowed to stand down today.
- 13 Grief
Grief does not move on a schedule and it does not care that it has been a while. Some days it wants nothing from you but a place to sit.
- 14 Morning
The first ten minutes set the tone for the nervous system, not for the calendar. You can lose the calendar and still keep the ten minutes.
- 15 Anxiety
A racing mind is often a body asking to be included. Try answering it in the body first — feet on the floor, breath out longer than in — before you argue with the thought.
- 16 Burnout
Burnout is not a shortage of hours. It is a system that forgot how to stand down. More hours off will not teach it. Practice will.
- 17 Self-trust
You already know what you need today. The reason you are looking for someone to confirm it is that it sounds like too little.
- 18 Body
Notice where you are bracing. Not to fix it. Just so it stops being invisible work.
- 19 Sleep
You do not have to fall asleep. You have to stop trying, which is a different and much easier instruction.
- 20 Letting go
Control feels like safety because at some point it was. That does not mean it is still the cheapest way to be safe.
- 21 Rest
Four minutes is not a compromise version of rest. For an activated nervous system, four minutes with nothing asked of it is the whole mechanism.
- 22 Over-responsibility
You are allowed to be tired in a life you chose. Both of those things can be completely true at the same time.
- 23 Digital detox
Your attention has been in a room with two hundred people shouting since you woke up. Of course it is loud in there.
- 24 Morning
You do not owe the morning your best self. You owe it about ninety seconds of breathing before the day starts making requests.
- 25 Body
Tension you have carried for years does not leave in one session. It leaves in the direction of leaving, a little at a time, and that counts.
- 26 Emotional rest
Feeling everything in the room is not a flaw to be corrected. It is a setting with a cost, and the cost is what needs tending — not the setting.
- 27 Sleep
The bedroom is not the problem and neither is the mattress. Something in you is still on shift. That is the thing to address.
- 28 Letting go
Letting go is not the same as pretending it did not matter. You can put a thing down and still know exactly how heavy it was.
- 29 Anxiety
Make the exhale longer than the inhale. Not because it is profound, but because it is the one lever you can reach from inside the feeling.
- 30 Rest
Rest is not the reward at the end of the list. It is the condition under which the list gets shorter.
- 31 Burnout
The holiday did not fix it because the holiday was not the missing piece. You brought the activation with you and set it down by the pool.
- 32 Grounded
You have been holding your ground so long you forgot it is also allowed to hold you. Put your weight down for a minute and find out.
- 33 Body
Shoulders. Right now. They have been up near your ears for at least an hour and nobody asked them to be.
- 34 Self-trust
You are not too much. You have been running a load that would be too much for anyone, and calling the strain a character trait.
- 35 Morning
Some mornings the whole practice is getting up slowly enough that your body knows it was included in the decision.
- 36 Emotional rest
You do not have to explain why you are tired. Explaining is more work, and the tiredness was already the point.
- 37 Sleep
If you wake at five with your heart going, that is not failure. That is a cortisol curve, and it responds to breath better than to reasoning.
- 38 Letting go
Some things do not resolve. They just get carried differently, until one day you notice the carrying stopped taking both hands.
- 39 Digital detox
Put the phone in another room for the length of one practice. Not forever. Just long enough for the silence to stop feeling like a problem.
- 40 Body
Your body has been giving you the same signal for weeks in a language you were trained to ignore. The practice is mostly learning the language.
- 41 Over-responsibility
Nobody appointed you to hold this. You volunteered, quietly, some years ago, and then everyone got used to it. That can be revisited.
- 42 Rest
Deep rest is not sleep and it is not doing nothing. It is a specific state, and it is available lying on the floor for twenty minutes.
- 43 Anxiety
The worry is not keeping anything safe. It only feels that way because nothing bad happened while you were doing it.
- 44 Grief
You are allowed to still be sad about it. There is no expiry date, and the people who suggested one were guessing.
- 45 Morning
The day does not have to be won. It has to be entered, and there is a gentler way in than the one you have been using.
- 46 Emotional rest
Being fine is a lot of work. If you are exhausted, check whether being fine is one of the jobs you have been doing all day.
- 47 Body
Breathe out all the way. Further than feels necessary. That last part of the exhale is where the signal actually lives.
- 48 Letting go
You can want something and stop gripping it. The wanting was never the tiring part.
- 49 Sleep
Put the day down before you get into bed, not after. The body needs the separation to be marked somewhere it can feel.
- 50 Grounded
Strength that never rests is not strength. It is a load-bearing wall, and even those get inspected.
- 51 Burnout
The tiredness came from months, so it will not leave in an evening. But it does move, and it moves faster once the system is told it is off duty.
- 52 Self-trust
Small and consistent beats sincere and occasional. Your nervous system learns from repetition, not from how much you meant it.
- 53 Rest
If you can only do one thing today, lie down on the floor for five minutes with your calves on a chair. That is not nothing. That is the whole thing.
- 54 Digital detox
Boredom is not a malfunction. It is what the beginning of quiet feels like when you are not used to it yet.
- 55 Emotional rest
You do not have to be ready. Readiness is not a prerequisite for lying down and breathing.
- 56 Body
Unclench your hands. There was nothing in them.
- 57 Anxiety
The mind will keep offering thoughts. That is its function, not a sign the practice failed. You are not clearing the room, you are staying in it.
- 58 Letting go
What you are holding on to may not be the thing. It may be the version of you that was strong enough to hold it. You get to keep that either way.
- 59 Morning
Wake up slowly, on purpose, once this week. Not because it fixes anything. Because it is a different way to be told what day it is.
- 60 Rest
Nothing more is required of you tonight. Not the reflection, not the plan, not the version of tomorrow where you do better. Just the breathing out.
When a note is not enough.
Every one of these has a practice behind it. They are free, and they are about four minutes long.
